Omakau Golf Club Inc was founded in 1931 and moved to the current course in 1946. Our mission is to provide the rural community and general public with a well maintained and inviting golf club, and to foster and encourage the game of golf. To further these aims we are a registered charity (Charity number CC56640).
The Club is run by an active committee that meets monthly to plan forthcoming events and ensure that the course and clubrooms are maintained in good order. We employ a part time groundsman to look after the greens and fairways and advise the committee on any work needed to maintain our facilities in good shape. The men's and ladies' sections run a full programme over the year and also participate in local (and some not-so-local) competitions. Current projects include an improvement of plumbing and hot water in the clubrooms and installing an outdoor deck area. We have recently upgraded the bathrooms with tiles and new flooring, and last year we re-carpeted the clubrooms.
Our clubrooms are warm, inviting and well-equipped and made available to local community groups who may wish to use them. Recent users include Federated Farmers, the Manuherikia Catchment Group and the Omakau community cards group. They can also be used by individuals for gatherings after weddings, funerals and the like.
